If the injury involves your child's neck or back, do not move him unless the child is in imminent danger. Movement can cause serious nerve damage. Phone for emergency medical help. If your child must be moved, the neck and back must be completely immobilized first. Keeping the head, neck, and back in alignment, move your child as a unit.
Do NOT straighten the extremity if it is deformed - keep it in the position found.
Stabilize the extremity. Use padding to keep it immobile.
Put ice on the injury. Never put the ice directly on the skin - put it in a bag first. After holding ice on the injury for about 20 minutes, take it off for 20 minutes.
Anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or naproxen will help with pain.
Elevate the extremity to reduce swelling.
We will need: Tent, personal survival kit, food, water, sleeping bag, warm clothes, sun hat, satellite phone, matches or lighter, rain coat, first aid kit, tea towel, poly props, pot, pan, bottles, powerade powder, towel, toiletries, spare blanket and pillow
